New NCCP Diving Coaching Manual Receives Conditional Approval

April 8, 2005

Diving Canada is pleased to announce that the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) has granted Conditional Approval of our new Competition-Introduction Coaching Manual. This is the first manual produced by Diving Canada under the new competency-based approach. This manual combines the technical and theory for levels 1 and 2.

Approximately 18 Learning Facilitators (formerly called course conductors) have now been trained across the country. Training for evaluators of new coaches is taking place in May. Learning Facilitators are now beginning to give this new coaching course to new coaches in Canada.

Diving Canada has up to one year to obtain final approval to the manual. Tasks left to complete include finalization of the NCCP database entries for Diving with the CAC, addition of a DVD to complement the materials, final editing and proofreading, and monitoring the training and certification system for new coaches, learning facilitators and evaluators and revising as necessary.

The attached document, NCCP Policies for Diving, outlines the training requirements for all coaches at each level from Learn to Dive Level 4/5, as well as information for provincial sections, learning facilitators and evaluators. All coaches will be required to go through some training, or complete some work, to maintain their current certification levels. This document will be updated regularly as new information becomes available. Please check back regularly for updates.

Work has also now begun to convert the Learn to Dive manual to a competency-based format. This stream is called Instruction-Beginner. Updated will be announced as they are available.

Diving Canada would like to thank the following people for their work in developing the Competition-Introduction Manual: Evelyne Boisvert, Pascale Gauthier, Isabelle Cloutier, Robert Breau, as well as our CAC Consultant, Jean Vaillancourt, for his ongoing support. Thanks as well to all those coaches, Learning Facilitators and Master Learning Facilitators who provided input and feedback to the manual.
