On top of that we accessed another $12,000 thru another 2 grant avenues (2010 and a CSC grant for our level 3 certified coaches). We were once again able to pay out all the monies budgeted for our Athlete Incentive program which is based on athletes performances at National championships. At this past Summer Nationals, we had 3 women finish in the top 12, which is an improvement from past years. The numbers of registered divers seems to be stabilizing and facilities always seem to play a facture here. It seems that each year a club must deal with pool closures which affect their programs and numbers registered. Coaching is always an issue. We have seen 1 coach leave the province but with luck he has been replaced with someone who has come back to the sport. As well, this fall we have lost 2 clubs, Markham and the Brock Niagara program. Program Priorities One of our goals continues again is to increase the numbers of registered divers at all levels. We are looking for new ways to improve our profile within the aquatics field. We have continued to participate in aquatics trade shows and other sporting events and it seems to have paid off with a few more cities requesting instructor courses and offering programs. We have also certified 3 more LTD course conductors this past fall, which should help with operating the many instructor courses that are requested in the fall. We are also fortunate that we now have a master course facilitator and 3 trained facilitators and evaluators. This should allow us to move forward with the new coaching certification. The goal is to have each club with a level 3 head coach. Our criterion for the athlete incentive program is being reviewed to continue to be relevant to our clubs and athletes. We are also in the planning stages of developing a training camp for identified provincial athletes. This is also the year for our Ontario Winter Games and although we will not be with all the other sports (due to facilities not available in Barrie); we are looking forward to an exciting event for our up and coming younger athletes. Club and Coach Development Once again one of our prime priorities is to continue with coach education and certification. This past year we have been able to train 3 new course facilitators and evaluators and our hope is that as this year progresses we will get our coaches trained within the new coaching program. As I have stated earlier, we have seen 2 of our clubs fold for various reasons, but we hope in the next few years to either get these back operating as well as see if there are other areas of our province that have facilities on track with building a club. Presently we have roughly targeted some areas where there is some potential. As always, coach availability and pool time are an issue. We have continued to help clubs financially with the various provincial championships as well as this past Summer Nationals. I applaud our clubs who have hosted these events as they have done a very good job running these meets. Future Plans At this past falls AGM, our coaches expressed a wish for professional development workshops, so we will be planning that for next year as well as something for our club presidents. We will be continuing to apply for the 2010 grant funding as well as the CSC grant. Our sport ministry consultant has informed us that more grants will be coming out in the future, which is positive in that there seems to be more monies available. The down side is that the turn around times for these grants seems to be around 3-4 weeks. We have just embarked on developing a strategic 4 year plan. One meeting has been held and another has been set for the end of the month. This should set us up for the next 4 years and we are also looking at our organizational structure and revising it to meet the needs of all the clubs, athletes and coaches in Ontario. With this we have recruited 3 new board members and are looking for a couple more to date. Our partnership with the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport on the project called BODYSENSE is now into its second year. An individual has been hired to do the various presentations and workshops with the clubs, athletes and parents. The hiring of the staff person was made available from a 3 year Trillium grant. Along with her doing the presentation, pamphlets and educational materials will be developed for everyone to use. Continuing to assist our coaches in their certification and educational endeavors is still a priority. Our Athlete Incentive program will continue to shape itself as it continues to evolve and the budget for this has increased a bit to allow more athletes to benefit from it. Finally a special thanks to my board for their support this past year and to their hard work. As well as to the coaches, athletes and parents who have given so much of their time, commitment and passion to our sport. It has been a good year.
