State of Diving in the Province Recognizing the need to expand our grassroots base, we would like to see more recreational clubs in the bigger centers. We have a new competitive club in Moose Jaw that started from scratch 2 years ago, and is expecting to have Tier 2/3 competitive divers, and possibly a Tier 2/3 meet this year. We also have another new club starting in Estevan. The challenge is to help these clubs develop structures and volunteer boards and to train coaches. The uncertainty of the new Level 1 coaching certification has made this difficult over the last 2 years. We conducted 36 summer clinics in rural pools this summer. We sent Level 2 coaches (1 in the North and 1 in the South) to conduct these clinics. They also took junior coaches with them for mentoring opportunities, recognizing that our only hope for future coaches is to train our own. 2. Program Priorities Having Canada Games in Saskatchewan was a huge boost to the morale of our athletes, coaches and volunteers over the last 2 years. However, it also was a drain on our human and financial resources as we really focused on the training needs of our core team. Our volunteers have certainly spent more time in meetings than we ever thought possible. At the end of the process, we have a large number of volunteers prepared to run National level meets, a facility renovated to National standards, and a group of Provincial athletes looking forward to 2009. Unfortunately, a number of our top divers left the Games and headed straight to University in the US, and we will miss them. We are very excited about a new pool facility being built in Saskatoon, and have had some discussion with the City to ensure this will be a national standard pool. 3. Club and Coach Development Our priorities continue to be in the areas of coaching development and new club development. We are concerned with our dependence on a small number of coaches and 3 completive clubs, realizing that we are vulnerable if one of those clubs should run into problems. We need a stronger foundation of rural recreational clubs. We are certainly concerned with how the new CBET certification will factor into training recreational coaches in remote areas. We also are looking at our officials program, and have identified a number of former divers who we will train and mentor this year. 4. Future Plans In Spring/05, we met for a 2 day retreat and formulated our 3 year plan.
