Meaghan Benfeito became a recognizable face on the international diving scene when she won the bronze medal on 10-metre synchro with Roseline Filion at the 2005 FINA World Aquatic Championships. However, in 2009, the 20-year old Montreal native made her mark in the individual ranks by hauling in two medals on 10-metre (1 gold, 1 silver) on the FINA Grand Prix circuit.

Despite her recent international success, Benfeito’s individual prowess was already well known within Canada for quite some time. She currently holds the national Group A (16 to 18 years old) 3-metre record (538.35 points).

In 2006, the duo from CAMO won the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games and followed up that performance with a 4th place finish at the 2007 FINA World Aquatic Championships.

On the 10-metre synchro, Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion picked up right where they left off in 2008 when they finished 7th at the Olympic Games. In 2009, the two Quebecers participated in all four stages of the FINA Diving World Series where they managed to bring home 2 silver and 1 bronze medal. During the FINA Grand Prix circuit, the Canadian champions also won 2 gold and 1 silver medals, totaling 6 international synchro medals to date in 2009.

Meaghan Benfeito was the busiest and most successful Canadian diver on the national and international scene in 2010. After starting the season with two gold medals at CAMO Invitational, Meaghan traveled the world competing at various stops on the FINA Grand Prix and FINA World Series. Along with her synchro partner Roseline Filion, the Canadian duo managed to reach the podium at every national and international event they entered in 2010. In addition to her seven synchro medals, Benfeito also won two individual medals at FINA sanctioned events.

In 2010, Benfeito and Filion continued to dominate on 10-metre synchro, winning medals in all eight of their events, including the FINA World Series, FINA World Cup and Canada Cup. Meaghan won gold at the Summer Senior National Championships and silver at the Spain Grand Prix on 10-metre before her season was cut short due to injury, forcing her to withdraw from the Commonwealth Games.

In 2011, the pair picked up five silver medals at World Series and Grand Prix events to go along with a gold medal at the Summer Nationals in Edmonton. Benfeito placed fourth on tower at the FINA World Aquatic Championships, a result that secured Canada a 2012 Olympic berth in the event.

Meaghan represented Canada very well at the Pan American Games as she closed out the year with two more medals in both of her events. She won bronze on tower and silver on 10-metre synchro with Roseline. The pair put an exclamation point on their 2011 season in winning their eighth synchro medal of the year.

Meaghan is currently training with a goal of representing Canada next summer at the 2012 London Olympics.
