Emma learned to dive at age 8 with her best friend, who’s mother, Canadian Olympian and Olympic judge, Beverley Boys served as her coach. Emma comes from a distinguished diving pedigree with her mother being Christine Loock, a U.S national champion, and her father, Ron Friesen, a Canadian Olympian from the 1972 Games.

In 2003, this diver from North Vancouver, BC earned her first junior national title on the 1 m. This turned out to be the first of six medals she would go on to win at various junior national championships. In this same year, Friesen qualified for the Summer Senior National Championships and won her first national senior medal, a silver on the 1 m behind only her idol and World Champion Blythe Hartley. Capping off her incredible year, she won silver on the 1 m and bronze on the 3 m at the Pan-American Junior Diving Championships.

In 2004, Emma Friesen and Kelly MacDonald became the first Canadian synchro team to win a medal at the FINA World Junior Championships when they captured silver in Brazil (3 m synchro).

In 2008, the University of Hawaii Kinesiology student a claimed gold on 1 m at the NCAA Division 1 Championships and was named NCAA Co-Diver of the Year.

Emma Friesen will represented Canada at the 2009 FISU Games in Belgrade, Serbia.
