In 2008 at the Beijing Olympics, Émilie Heymans was able to capture the silver medal on 10-metre, her very first individual Olympic medal. The 27-year old Saint-Lambert native also became just the fifth athlete in Canadian history to win three medals at three different Olympic Games. In 2004 Emilie paired with Blythe Hartley to win bronze on 10-metre synchro, and in 2000 she and Anne Montminy brought home silver from Sydney in the same event.

After returning home from these recent Games, this Point-Claire diver decided to change her focus and switch to 3-metre springboard with London 2012 as the ultimate goal in mind. At her first competition in her “new” event, Émilie Heymans won the silver medal at the Canada Cup.

Émilie has previously competed internationally on 3-metre and won the silver medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, 2003 Pan Am Games, and 2003 FINA Super Grand Final. She has also won five national titles.

Émilie Heymans has been extremely successful on 10-metre and 10-metre synchro with her partner Marie Eve Marleau, as is evident by her Olympic medals, national senior records, and Group A (16 to 18 years old) national record in these events.

As is the case with many divers, the 2003 World Champion on 10-metre started her career as a competitive gymnast. At 11 years of age, she started diving and immediately fell in love with the sport. Within her first week, the head coach of her club noticed her potential and took her under his wing.

Emilie Heymans will be representing Canada again this summer at the 2009 FINA World Aquatic Championships in Rome, Italy.

The 2010 competitive season has been a year of adaptation for Émilie. With a hip injury during the majority of the season, Émilie found herself with a new synchro partner in Jennifer Abel. Émilie began the season with a gold medal performance on the 3-metre at the Winter Senior National Championships in January. Once at the World Series in Mexico, Émilie won a silver medal with her new synchro partner, Jennifer, in the 3-metre synchro event. Within the following two weeks the dynamic pair had a repeat performance at the Canada Cup Grand Prix in Montreal and followed that accomplishment with a bronze medal at the World Cup in June. By the end of the summer holidays, Émilie had added a silver medal from the 3-metre and gold on 3-mtre synchro with Jennifer Abel to her medal collection due to her participation at the Summer Senior National Championships. As September rolled around, Émilie collected a bronze medal at the Spain Grand Prix in Madrid. Heymans is expected to compete at the 2010 Commonwealth Games taking place in October in Delhi, India.

Amongst the best divers from the Commonwealth countries, Émilie and the remaining athletes from the Canadian contention represented their country well. Émilie took home a bronze medal on the 1-metre and with Jennifer Abel by her side, the synchro pair collected gold once again.

Continuing their strong partnership on 3-metre synchro, Heymans and Abel picked up three silver medals on the FINA World Series tour in 2011. The duo went on to set a Canadian record on 3-metre synchro the 2011 Summer Nationals in Edmonton. The highlight of their season came in the form of a silver medal performance at the FINA World Aquatic Championships, in Shanghai, where they also clinched a 2012 Olympic spot for Canada on 3-metre synchro.

Emilie closed out the 2011 season with yet another medal on 3 m synchro, winning bronze with Jennifer. This was the duo’s eighth medal of the season, all of which were gold or silver. They are currently training as they build towards their goal of representing Canada at next summer’s London Olympics.
