Jim is a five-time national champion who competed for Canada in several international events in the late sixties. Since 1971 when he began coaching in Toronto, Jim has work with some of Canada’s best divers including Janet Nutter (Pan Am and Commonwealth gold medalist, FINA World Cup medalist, FISU Games medalist), Linda Cuthbert (Commonwealth gold medalist and two-time Pan Am Games medalist), and Jennifer McArton (Commonwealth silver medalist and World Age Group Champion).

Jim coached at the 1998 Olympics, three Commonwealth Games, two FISU Games and two Pan American Games. He is a three-time winner of the CIAU Coach of the Year and of the Manitoba Sportswriter Coach of the Year.

Jim was a National Team coach from 1972-1992 and head coach of the Pan Am Diving Club for 12 years. He retired in 1992, but returned as head coach in 1998 and was named to the National Team in 2001. Jim coaches National Team diver Kevin Geyson.
