Melanie Rinaldi began diving when she was a teenager. Melanie was simply having fun jumping on a diving boardnat a public pool when a coach saw her and invited her to take diving lessons. With no gymnastic background, beginning her diving career as a teenager was a challege. With perseverance and hard work, Melanie won her first national medal 9 years later in 2002, a bronze on 3-metre which qualified her for her 1st Commonwealth Games.

In the fall of 2004, this native of North Montreal suffered a serious knee injury. After a complete reconstructive knee operation, she had to wait six months before being able to dive again. Through her hard work and only a few months of training she placed second in the country and was able to qualify for the 2005 FINA World Aquatic Championships and finished 10th on 3-metre.

The momentum of 2005 carried over to 2006 at the Commonwealth Games where Melanie Rinaldi won the silver medal on 3-metre synchro with Rebecca Barras.

In 2009, Melanie Rinaldi won the first individual international medal of her career, a bronze on 3-metre at the Russian Grand Prix. After this accomplishment, the 29-year old won her first National title on 1-metre and teamed up with Jennifer Abel on 3-metre synchro. The newly formed tandem won the silver medal at the Canada Cup and placed fourth at the USA Grand Prix and 2009 World Championships in Rome.

2010 followed to be a challenging year where she was out of the diving scene for over 12 months following a reconstructive shoulder surgery. Not having competed since July 2009, Melanie returned in June 2011 to place among the top 3 in the country with a bronze on 3-metre.
