Sabrina Beaupré

AACHEN, Germany- Sabrina Beaupré of Longueuil, Que., and Carol-Ann Ware of St-Hilaire, Que., won the gold medal in the women’s synchronized three-metre event on Friday at the the Lambertz-Sprinhen International junior diving competition.

Beaupré and Ware, competing for the first time together, saw 8.5’s from the judges on all five dives in the final for the victory with 292.53 points. Svetlana Lapina and Daria Govor of Russia were second at 263.37 and Eloise Bélanger of Montreal and Myriam Selmani of Laval, Que., took the bronze at 255.00.

‘’We are very pleased with such a solid performance,’’ said Beaupré, who won the gold in the same event with Carol-Ann’s sister Pamela here last year. ‘’We didn’t set our sights on victory but we know we have some experience at this level and we can do well.’’

Bélanger and Selmani would have liked to have their last dive back

‘’The first four dives were very good but we kind of missed the last one,’’ said Bélanger. ‘’We didn’t have much time to practice together so it’s a very impressive result for us.’’

It’s a second medal for both Ware and Bélanger. They won the women’s 16-18 one-metre and 14-15 platform respectively on Thursday.

Bélanger nearly collected her third medal of the competition in the girls 14-15 three-metre finishing fourth just six points out of a medal spot. Melissa Citrini-Beaulieu of St. Constant, Que., was also in the medal hunt and took fifth. Selmani and Rebecca Guenette of Brossard, Que., were eighth and 17 th in the preliminaries.

In the boys 14-15 platform, Sam Valentine of Saskatoon and C.J. Moore of Waterloo, Ont., both advanced to the final and placed sixth and eighth respectively.

In the men’s 16-18 one-metre, Shane Miszkiel of Victoria was ninth and Brandon Mackinson of Calgary 12 th. Cody Yano of Edmonton was 11 th in the preliminaries but he did not advance due to a two-per-country limit for the final.

Competition continues Saturday.
