Diving Plongeon Canada Confirms Board of Directors For 2009-10

December 1st, 2009

OTTAWA - Following its annual general meeting held in Ottawa on November 21st, Diving Plongeon Canada (DPC) is pleased to announce that Scott Stevenson has joined the association’s national board of directors.   Kelly Stark-Anderson was re-acclaimed as a director for a two year term and will continue to serve as the President of the association for the ensuing year.  Kathy Seaman, a board member since 2006 and past DPC President, was re-acclaimed to the board for another two-year term. Claude Cormier and Dr. Saul Marks round out the five-member board as they continue on with the final year of their two-year terms.

The appointment of Scott Stevenson (Ottawa, ON) to DPC’s board of directors marks his return to the sport of diving as he previously held the positions of Executive Director of DPC from 1997 to 2002 and Athlete/Coach Development Manager from 1994 to 1997.  Scott is a long-standing member of the Canadian amateur sport scene and carries with him years of experience as CEO of Synchro Canada (2002 to 2006), and as the Director of Sport for Commonwealth Games Canada (2007 to present).

Kelly Stark-Anderson (Vancouver, BC), a board member since 2003, and a lawyer specializing in corporate law, has been re-acclaimed for another two year term and will continue to fill the role of President. This role is not unfamiliar territory for Kelly who has held the position since November 2008 and was the president of Dive BC from 1994 to 2003. Kelly’s leadership will be looked upon to help guide DPC in this next quadrennial and build upon the momentum that was created in Beijing 2008 and Rome 2009.

Kathy Seaman (Calgary, AB) has been re-acclaimed to serve her third two-year board term.   A past-President of DPC, Kathy brings a wealth of international insight to the board having been a member of the FINA Technical Committee (TDC) since 1996 and served as the FINA TDC Chair and Honorary Secretary for several years.   Kathy is also one of only two individuals to have represented Canada in diving at the Olympics as both an athlete (1972) and a judge (1984, 1988, and 1996).

Claude Cormier (Halifax, NS) continues on the board to carry out his first term of office. Having been involved as a national level diver and coach from 1973 to 1985, Claude re-entered the world of diving by joining the DPC board in 2008.   Claude has been involved in the pharmaceutical industry for the past 29 years and is currently the District Business Manager for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals in Atlantic Canada. Claude brings a great deal of business expertise to DPC, including experience in strategic planning, business plan execution, group dynamics, and human resources development.

A board member since 2002 and a national team athlete from 1980 to 1984, Dr. Saul Marks (Toronto, ON) will serve the final year of his term and will fill the role of the athletes’ liaison to the board. In addition to his position with DPC, Saul is an expert on the subject of sport psychiatry and holds a position on the medical committee of the Canadian Center for Ethics and Sports. Additionally, this past summer Saul was named the Honourary Secretary to the FINA Sport Medicine Committee.

The following internal and external liaison roles were also established during the weekend:
