Roseline Filion leads Canadian medal charge with gold at diving Grand Prix

FORT LAUDERDALE- Roseline Filion of Laval, Que., won the gold medal on women’s 10-metre tower to highlight a quadruple medal Canadian performance on Saturday to conclude the fifth stop on the FINA Grand Prix diving circuit.

Meaghan Benfeito of Montreal added a bronze on tower while Reuben Ross of Regina took silver on men’s three-metre and Jennifer Abel of Montreal was third on women’s three-metre. Canada ended the meet with six medals after marching to the podium seven times last week at the Grand Prix in Montreal.

On women’s 10-metre tower, Filion tabulated 338.40 points for her third Grand Prix medal this season on individual tower. Brittany Viola of the U.S., was second at 329.15 and Benfeito snared the bronze with a 328.35 score. On Friday, Filion and Benfeito won gold in the synchro 10-metre event.

On men’s three-metre, veteran Troy Dumais of the U.S, won the gold with 512.00 points. Ross followed at 483.75 and Christopher Colwill of the U.S., was third at 473.45. Eric Sehn of Edmonton was sixth.

On women’s three-metre, Allison Brennan of the U.S., was the winner at 358.55. Anastasia Pozdniakova of Russia was second at 340.55 and Abel followed in third at 331.95. Four-time Olympic medallist Fu Minxia of China was fourth.

Riley McCormick of Victoria was sixth on men’s 10-metre tower. Fourteen-year-old European champion Thomas Daley of Britain won the gold. Olympic silver medalist Zhou Luxin of China was third.

About the FINA Grand Prix
Held since 1995, the FINA Grand Prix is similar in format to the World Cups in alpine skiing and speed skating. This season there are five stops, including the Canada Cup from April 30-May 3 in Montreal, Quebec.
