| Filion and Benfeito win synchro silver at diving World Series | ||||||||

VERACRUZ, Mexico – Roseline Filion of Laval, Que., and Meaghan Benfeito of Montreal won the silver medal on Wednesday on women’s synchronized 10-metre tower to conclude the third and final stop on the FINA World Series diving circuit. It was Canada’s second medal of the competition. On Tuesday, Alexandre Despatie of Laval added silver on men’s three-metre springboard. In women’s 10-metre synchro, Chen Ruolin and Hao Wang of China were winners with 365.82 points to complete a golden sweep of all three events. Filion and Benfeito followed at 336.54 to end the World Series season with medals at all three stops. They were third last month in China and second this past weekend, also in Veracruz. Melissa Wu and Alexandra Croak of Australia were third at 296.70. In the women’s three-metre springboard Wednesday, Jennifer Abel of Laval was fourth. He Zi of China took the gold with Paola Espinosa of Mexico second and Wu Minxia of China third. The next major event on the diving calendar is the Canada Cup FINA Grand Prix event April 29-May 2 at the Olympic Pool in Montreal. - 30 -
