| Canada's François Imbeau-Dulac in first Grand Prix diving final | ||||||||
|
March 5 , 2010
Imbeau-Dulac’s previous best Grand Prix result was an eighth place finish last year in Spain. This is the third straight year the 19-year-old Canada Games champion has travelled to the Russian capital for this stop on the circuit. He was 10th last year and 13th in 2008. ‘’As a coach, I’m very proud of his effort,’’ said Imbeau-Dulac’s coach Aaron Dziver of Montreal. ‘’He didn’t play it safe, which is something that can happen if you’re a little worried about your performance. I really look forward to his next final. I think he’ll be able to stay calmer. I don’t think he was nervous tonight but he wasn’t able to control his dives as well as he would have liked.’’ Eric Sehn of Edmonton advanced to the semifinals and placed fourth in his heat. The top-three from each of the two semis advanced to Friday’s final. In women’s 10-metre synchro, sisters Carol Ann Ware and Pamela Ware of Otterburn, Que., collected a second straight seventh place finish. They were also seventh in Thursday’s three-metre synchro final. ‘’The result sounds worst than it should be,’’ said Dziver. ‘’They were third after three rounds but they went out of synch on their fourth dive and that’s what cost them. It was close between the teams that you couldn’t afford any mistakes. Still they dove exceptionally well for their first international event this season.’’ Competition ends Saturday. Mandy Moran of Thunder Bay, Ont., competes in the women’s three-metre final. - 30 -
