Coaches guiding the Canadian team in Tucson include: Aaron Dziver (Terrebonne QC), Herb Flewwelling (Edmonton, AB), Tommy McLeod (Victoria, BC ), Andrée Pouliot-Deschamps (Saint-Lambert, QC), Steve Carroll (Saskatoon, SK), Dany Boulanger (Levis, QC), Ioana Marinescu (London, ON), Anna Dacyshyn (Toronto, ON) and David Flewweling (Edmonton , AB).

They will also be joined by Canadian judges Hélène Morneau (Lac Beauport, QC) and Francine Lavoie (Quebec City, QC) and physiotherapist Brendan Hickey (Ottawa, ON).

Diving Canada's High Performance Director, Scott Cranham, commented on Canada's previous participation at World Junior Championships: "With divers such as Alexandre Despatie, Blythe Hartley, Emilie Heymans, and Jennifer Abel consistently turning in outstanding performance at passed World Juniors, the bar has been set fairly high as to what the world expects from Canada. We have a long history of performing well at this event and we take it as a challenge to continue that legacy. The best divers in the world between 14 and 18 years of age will be in Tucson, so we are anticipating the highest level of competition".

"Knowing the types of challenges that await us, we do have some medal hopefuls in several of the girl's events", added Cranham. "Pamela Ware (Otterburn Park, QC) is coming directly from the Youth Olympic Games where she place 4th on 3-meter springboard. She has competed extremely well internationally since the 2008 World Juniors and is a diver to watch this week. Returning to this event is Rachel Kemp (Victoria, BC) who was a bronze medalist in 2008 and has shown flashes of brilliance on the tower this year. Michelle Piper Kulak (Edmonton, AB) is making her first appearance at a World Juniors and could make an impact as well. She has competed very well at previous Pan American Juniors Championships and this step up in competition will be an important part of her development."

In speaking about the development opportunity the young athletes have this week, Cranham specifies, "This is going to be a major learning experience for the B group (14 & 15 year old) kids. Some of them have very little international experience and it might be a little overwhelming. However, we are confident in their abilities and credit needs to be given to the coaches who have done a tremendous job in preparing these junior athletes for this event. We are looking forward to arriving in Tucson so that the final adjustments can be made."

About the FINA World Junior Championships
The world will be introduced to some of the next generation of diving greats at the 18th edition of the FINA World Junior Diving Championships, taking place from September 1-6, 2010, in Tucson, Ari. (USA).

Some 180 divers, with a slightly higher number of female competitors, coming from 29 countries, will either make their debut or re-affirm their place among the world's best on the boards of the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center – Kasser Family Pool, University of Arizona.

Boys and girls compete in both "A" (born 1990/1991/1992) and "B" (born 1993/1994) age groups. This competition, organised in even years, comprises 14 events: 1m, 3m springboard and 10m platform for A and B as well as a 3m springboard synchro event mixing A and B.

In the last edition in Aachen (GER), China blitzed to win all but one title (earned by Russia) on offer. Competition will most certainly be tough, as Australia, Germany, Great Britain, Ukraine, USA and Russia also have strong contenders to claim a podium spot.

Since the 2008 edition, a sixth day was added to the competition, following the ever-growing number of divers participating in the event.
