Pamela Ware

GUADALAJARA , Mexico- Pamela Ware of Otterburn Park, Que., qualified for a second event on Saturday at a diving trial competition for this summer’s inaugural Youth Olympics placing third in the women’s three-metre springboard.

Marc Sabourin-Germain of Mascouche, Que., will join Ware in Singapore August 14-26 after he qualified in the men’s 10-metre tower.

As was the case in her second place finish on tower on Friday, Ware struggled early in the preliminaries but consistently improved after each dive.

“I wasn’t focused in the preliminaries and I lacked energy,” said Ware, 17, a triple gold medallist at the Canada Games last year. “But I was able to pull it together for the final. I felt rested and all my dives just went a lot better. It’s really exciting to qualify for both events. It’s something I thought would be possible.”

Sabourin-Germain competed at his first career Grand Prix last week in Russia and the experience paid off as he grabbed the ninth and final qualifying spot for the Games.
